After ending the 40 year streak by not running the program in the pandemic of 2020, we have arrived in Seville and look to start a new streak. After many checkpoints where each one seemed set up to send us back to Woodberry, we all made it through and are ready to take full advantage of a five week immersion opportunity. The most important, by far, for the language experience is the homestay. Many boys were nervous about this aspect of the program, though at tonights check in, most felt very comfortable and told me stories of great conversations that they already have had with their new family. A couple are still getting used to the speed of their Andalusian hosts, but will gain more confidence in the next few days, for sure.
A few boys were talking on the plane a few rows behind me, and I experienced a first in the 15 odd years I have done this program: they were reviewing with each other how they would use the grammar they had learned in the classroom. How verbs like gustar work, when to use tú versus usted, etc. It is going to be a good summer!
The family handoff is always chaotic and I never get goo photos. I promise they will be better going forward.
