We had a full day, half focused on tuna and the other on Flamenco. We travelled down to the coast where the town of Barbate has a strong focus on the Almadraba, the old Phoenician way of catching tuna during their runs through the Straight of Gibraltar in the spring. We learned about the process in the local Almadraba museum, They use a maze of nets and pull them out of the water on to the boats with hooks. Much of this prized tuna is sent to Japan, the rest, I believe, we had for lunch. El Campero is a highly respected restaurant that focuses on the local tuna. Our tasting menu photos below will help show the quality and also might make you quite jealous. We returned in time to catch a fabulous flamenco show with our friend, Ana Real, as the singer. She will be teaching our boys a class in the coming week.
