Hospital de la Caridad

One of my favorite classes that we offer the boys is a hidden gem in the middle of Seville.  A real life 17th century Don Juan, named Miguel Mañara, wanted to change his ways to gan access to heaven.  He gave all of his money, a considerable amount, to build a hospital for the poor and a church that would teach the importance of charity.  He spared no expenses and hired the best artists, like Bartolomé Esteban Murillo and Juan de Valdés Leal.  The class taught the boys how to read the paintings for their intended purpose.  Next door, we had a quick look at where ships were built (Las Atarazanas) when Seville was the epicenter of Spain's age of exploration.
