Valle de los Caídos and El Escorial

We had a full day with a morning trip to El Escorial, where most of the kings are buried and a palace full of amazing artwork and history.  Valle de los Caídos is a modern monument dedicated to the victims of the Spanish Civil War.  The boys learned how complicated it is today for Spaniards to treat something Franco had built.  We then had a tour of Madrid, hitting many of its highlights, ending with a visit to La Reina Sofía, the best museum for modern Spanish artists (Picasso, Dalí, Miro) and home of La Guernica.  Our dinner was at the exceptionally good Tasquita de Enfrente where we met it's well known chef/owner Juanjo.  The food is a modern take on Spanish classics.

Tomorrow we head to Segovia, as the boys asked if we could go there instead of Toledo based on what they has heard.  Both cities are great so I was happy to oblige.
