CORTIJO

Today was our trip to the Andalusian version of a ranch/hacienda called a cortijo.  At this one, La Calera, they raise bulls for bullfights.  We were greeted with a welcome drink and a series of appetizers.  We then had a quick demonstration on how gazpacho is made.  Then a tour of the fields were bulls of various ages are kept and we had the man in charge explain how these bulls are raised and chosen to breed.  We returned to a talk by a bullfighter who showed us the many aspects of the bullfight and answered questions.  He then took us to a ring where the boys tried their skills with a young bull.  We ended the stay with some grilled pork.
